| Removals. How to plan your move to Spain. |

There are six basic points to follow :

Contact a registered Removal Company.
Choose a professional company, a good place to look is the British Assocciation of Removers. Once you have found a suitable firm, they will advise you on all aspects of the move including import formalities and all necessary documentation.

Decide what to take and what to leave (or get rid of).
Perhaps one of the biggest headaches is when you actually sit down and discover all the things you´ve accumulated over the years. Don´t forget the contents of the loft, cellar, garage, garden shed, etc. These will all need to be emptied.

Effective packing.
The removals company will give you important tips on packing your possesions. It´s a good idea to write your destination address on each box just in case. Also try to pack heavy items in small boxes as they are easier to transport and mark the contents of each package clearly - so you can find that corkscrew as soon as you arrive in your new home.

Children.
Moving can also be a traumatic experience for kids, especially younger ones. It might be a good idea to have them looked after by a friend or family member until the hardest part is over.

Pets.
You can only take a maximum of 2 pets with you to Spain. These will require the necessary health records showing proof of vaccinations. Talk to your vet who will have the most up-to-date information. For more information check the European Pet Travel Scheme.

Notify companies of change of address.
You will need to inform relevant companies of your impending move. You can contact the Post Office to arrange for your mail to be forwarded to your new address, although utilities companies such as gas, electricity, water, telephone companies as well as banks, insurance, credit / debit card companies, State and Federal tax authorities and other government agencies will all have to be notified accordingly. Send new address details to family and friends.
